Every year, for the annual World Emoji Awards, we celebrate a number of both new and upcoming emoji — but we also like to tip our hat to those that we’ve been happily using now for many, many years.
Yep, the Lifetime Achievement award does just that.
It’s awarded to some of the most significant, popular and notable of all the emoji that we see on our phones, on our screens, and across our texts and social media every single day — no matter whether old or new.
In 2023 the 🤣 ‘Rolling on Floor Laughing’ emoji took the award — for 2024 this award is given to the ✨ ‘Sparkles’ emoji, a versatile and always popular emoji, this I commonly used to indicate various positive sentiments, including love, happiness, beauty, gratitude, and excitement, as well as newness or cleanliness. In recent years it has also seen increased usage for artificial intelligence (AI) applications.
